FTA Initiates Nationwide Corporate Tax Public Awareness Campaign

Corporate Tax

The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) of the UAE has officially launched a public awareness campaign to educate taxpayers about the Corporate Tax Law, as stipulated by Federal Decree-Law No.47 of 2022. This initiative seeks to facilitate the seamless implementation of the new tax regulations, applicable for financial years commencing on or after June 1, 2023.

This extensive campaign is an extension of the Corporate Tax Public Awareness Program conducted by the UAE Ministry of Finance from December 2022 to June 2023. It included numerous sessions and discussions introducing the Corporate Tax Law and explaining its significant aspects and implications for the business sector.

Scheduled to start on July 12, 2023, the FTA plans to conduct physical and virtual workshops throughout the Emirates. These workshops are designed to expand awareness and ensure a widespread understanding of the tax law among as many taxpayers as possible. They underscore the FTA’s commitment to its role in tax administration, collection, and enforcement at the federal level.

His Excellency Khalid Ali Al Bustani, FTA Director General, emphasized the importance of this campaign in preparing the business community for the Corporate Tax Law. He highlighted the tax's role in maintaining confidence in the UAE's tax system and aligning the FTA’s administration practices with global standards. He also pointed out the introduction of Corporate Tax as a direct tax on net profits, acknowledging the need for guidance, especially for smaller businesses unfamiliar with VAT.

In anticipation of the Corporate Tax's implementation, the FTA has been working closely with relevant authorities to establish precise and adaptable mechanisms for the new regime, aiming to support business growth, attract investments, and enhance the UAE's economy.

Registration for Corporate Tax commenced on May 15, 2023, for various business entities, with future registration phases for other taxable persons to follow. Additionally, the FTA has been conducting webinars on Corporate Tax registration and continues to do so to guide taxpayers on registering through the EmaraTax platform.

Taxable entities and representatives from corporate legal, accounting, and financial sectors are encouraged to participate in the upcoming workshops focusing on General Corporate Tax Principles. For workshop schedules and further details, visit this link.
