E-invoicing in Saudi Arabia

E-invoicing in Wafeq

Learn how e-invoicing for Saudi Arabia works with Wafeq.

Phase 1: QR code generation

If you've created an organization in Wafeq with Saudi Arabia as the country, Wafeq will automatically generate a Phase 1 compliant e-invoice with a QR code for invoices you issue to your customers.

Invoices you issue to your customers are not sent to ZATCA during Phase 1 of the e-invoicing law.

Don't forget to enter your TIN number in Wafeq

Be sure to enter your Tax Identification Number and your registered company name in your Account Settings under your organization details in order for the QR code to hold the correct information.

The QR code will contain the following information:

  • Seller’s name
  • Seller's VAT number
  • Invoice timestamp
  • Invoice amount
  • VAT amount

The QR code is not scannable by your phone camera

The QR code is encoded as per ZATCA's technical specifications. You will not be able to scan it with your phone camera.

To verify a QR code, use ZATCA's official app:

Phase 2: Integration with ZATCA

ZATCA plans to implement Phase 2 in waves starting from 2023. Companies that will be part of each wave will be notified at least six months in advance by ZATCA.

Wafeq is Phase 2 compliant and you will be able to activate Phase 2 in your Wafeq account when ZATCA officially implements Phase 2.
