Entering transactions in a bank or petty cash account

If you do not wish to import your bank statement, you can manually enter transactions in your bank account using Manual Journals.

To enter a deposit of 100 into your bank account, petty cash account, or credit card account:

  1. Create a journal with the date of the deposit
  2. In the Lines, create two lines:
    1. First line:
      • Enter a description for the deposit
      • Choose the account where you want to deposit the money
      • In the Debit column, enter 100
    2. Second line:
      • Enter the same description for the deposit
      • As the Account choose “Opening Balance Offset”
      • In the Credit column, enter 100
    3. Click Save to save the journal.

You can verify the balance on your bank account by going to your balance sheet and selecting the date when you’d like to view the balance.
